5000 series aluminum alloys are primarily composed of magnesium as the main alloying element, possessing excellent corrosion resistance and medium to high strength, making them a widely used structural material.
Element Composition
Aluminum (Al): Main component.
Magnesium (Mg): Main alloying element, typically accounting for 2% to 6% of the total weight. The addition of magnesium significantly enhances the alloy's strength and corrosion resistance.
Manganese (Mn): A small amount of manganese is sometimes added to improve strength and corrosion resistance.
Other trace elements such as silicon (Si), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and chromium (Cr): Typically present in low quantities, either as impurities or minor additives to optimize specific properties.
Properties
