1. Classification Based on Copper Content: Zorba can be categorized into high-copper and low-copper grades. High-copper grades refer to scrap with copper content of ≥5%, typically medium or small in size. Low-copper grades have copper content between 1% and 5%, often medium or large in size.

2. Classification Based on Metal Content: High-grade scrap refers to metal content ≥90%, indicating a more thorough previous sorting with less iron, plastic, and wood contamination. Low-grade scrap has metal content below 90%, containing more impurities unrelated to non-ferrous metals, such as iron, plastic, wood chips, and rubber. Some low-grade scrap has low metal content but relatively high copper content.

3. Classification by Size: Zorba is conventionally divided into large, medium, and small sizes. Large scrap typically ranges from 10mm to 20mm in size, with higher metal content and a higher water yield of approximately 92% to 93%. Medium scrap, ranging from 5mm to 10mm, has slightly lower water yield (91% to 92%) and copper content not exceeding 4%. Small scrap, under 5mm, has a lower water yield of around 90% but higher copper content, often above 5% and potentially exceeding 10%.

常见来源

The primary source of Zorba is automobile shredding facilities or other municipal waste shredding plants. Depending on the source, the composition and ratio of metals can vary. Scrap from automobile shredding plants contains a higher proportion of wrought aluminum (cast aluminum) than that from municipal waste plants. The elemental metal composition can differ based on region and origin, with European scrap having a wrought to cast aluminum ratio of approximately 3:7, whereas in American scrap, the ratio is roughly 1:1. The metal content of scrap from different continents, factories, or batches can vary, but larger shredding plants with meticulous management and strict material selection can maintain relatively stable specifications for their output.

价值点

The value of Zorba lies in its non-ferrous metals, especially the presence of copper (including copper, brass, and crushed copper wire), which, despite being in lower quantities, commands a higher price. Copper's presence in Zorba is of significant value, and the ability to visually estimate its non-ferrous metal content and copper content, training the naked eye to assess quality, is crucial. Generally, when scattered copper-like metals can be easily seen in Zorba, the copper content is a minimum of 3% to 4%.

处理方法

Processing Zorba is complex and often requires specialized machinery and equipment beyond manual sorting. After magnetic separation to remove iron, the following steps are typically involved:

1. Flotation: Using a special solvent, a solution is prepared to match the density of aluminum alloys. Scrap is then introduced into the solution. Aluminum and lighter metals float to the top, while heavier metals such as zinc, copper, and stainless steel sink to the bottom. The heavy metals are separated as the copper-zinc fraction (Heavies).

2. Air Separation: After flotation, the scrap undergoes air separation. Metal is conveyed and thrown forward, with different metals landing at varying distances based on gravity. Non-metal impurities like plastic, rubber, and wood can also be separated by lateral air currents during this process.

3. Manual Sorting: Depending on the region and company management, manual sorting may or may not occur. The level of detail in sorting can vary widely.

检测方式

The primary method for detecting Zorba is sampling and testing. During the sampling process, note the following:

1. **Quantity of Sample**: Sampling is a scientific process involving random selection to quantitatively analyze the goods, balancing accuracy and efficiency. Larger sample sizes increase accuracy but decrease efficiency; smaller samples increase efficiency but reduce accuracy. For a typical container load of approximately 25 tons, routine sampling ranges from 300 to 500 kilograms. Sampling below this range significantly reduces accuracy, while sampling above this range decreases efficiency.

2. **Sampling Methodology**: Zorba accumulates unevenly during stacking and transportation due to the varying weights, sizes, and shapes of aluminum, copper, brass, wire, etc. Heavier, smaller copper metals tend to settle at the bottom or lower sections, while larger aluminum scraps and stainless steel pieces gather at the top or upper sections. If sampling is not performed uniformly across all layers, discrepancies can arise. Sampling restricted to the top or upper sections might result in underestimated copper content but higher metal content; sampling confined to the bottom or lower sections might yield overestimated copper content but lower metal content due to higher contaminant levels.

3. **Timing of Sampling**: Long-term storage, especially outdoors, can lead to oxidation and corrosion of metal materials, impacting product quality. Sampling and testing should be promptly arranged to minimize storage time. This ensures more accurate data and reduces customer losses.

匹配方向

The matching directions for Zorba are broad, encompassing not only trading companies but also the following primary demand sectors:

1. Sorting and Processing Companies: These enterprises are equipped with comprehensive sorting equipment, including air separation, flotation, magnetic separation, eddy current, and X-ray sorting. Some even have polishing capabilities. Often located in regions with flexible import-export policies and lower labor costs such as Thailand, Malaysia, India, and Pakistan, they process shredded scrap to create a variety of recycled raw materials, such as shredded aluminum, shredded brass, shredded zinc, and shredded magnesium. Copper-zinc fractions are sometimes sold as finished products.

2. Melting and Production Companies: Primarily recycling aluminum producers, these companies have sorting equipment and the capability to melt down shredded aluminum and other raw materials to produce aluminum ingots and molten aluminum. Some rely on sorting companies for preprocessing the shredded scrap. The processed shredded aluminum is used for production, while other sorted products like copper, zinc, and magnesium are sold separately.

Shredded (medium) is suitable for both sorting and melting companies. Prices in the Chinese mainland and Southeast Asian markets are comparable to India and are relatively high. Unpolished shredded scrap is not allowed to be imported into China.

特别注意

The primary focus for Zorba is its content specifications. Content primarily involves two aspects: metal content and copper content. Given the high value of copper, a 1% deviation in its content can significantly impact the goods' value. The copper content is particularly critical.

To gather detailed information on the copper content, in the absence of a site visit, the following methods can be employed:

1. Analysis of physical images from suppliers and quotations to carefully assess the proportion of copper.

2. Analysis of long-term data from the same supplier or factory, as data from consistent sources tend to be more stable.

3. Detailed processing data from downstream buyers who have previously purchased this grade of Zorba, which can be more reliable and direct than supplier data, as suppliers may provide samples with smaller volumes (tens to hundreds of kilograms).
