One should carefully identify if it is made of copper; transformer toroids in the U.S. are typically copper-based. The copper content usually ranges from 20% to 30%, and the copper content can be judged by observing the sparsity of the winding layers on the toroid. In addition to copper, there are silicon steel sheets and stainless steel. Generally, the larger the transformer toroid, the better, and the higher the copper content. The value of silicon steel sheets occupies a significant proportion, accounting for 60%-70% of the total weight, and is of higher value; although copper has a high unit price, its content is lower and it is difficult to remove, and when using an electric pick or other tools, avoid damaging the silicon steel sheets as much as possible. The enameled copper wire and steel sheets should be separated and bundled for sale.

The outer layer of the transformer toroid has an insulating and waterproof function.
This type of toroid has a low copper content. The copper content in normal toroids ranges from 20% to 30%, but some coils are much sparser, with as little as around 10%.
