Electric meters are typically used to measure and record the amount of electricity used. These devices can be based on different technologies, including traditional mechanical meters (analog) and modern electronic meters (digital).
Mechanical meters, also known as "rotating disk meters," usually consist of:
* An aluminum measuring disk that rotates under the influence of an electric current. The speed of the disk is proportional to the current flowing through it.
* Gears and counters connected to the rotating disk to record electricity usage.
* An electromagnetic field, typically with a copper coil, to stabilize the rotation speed and ensure measurement accuracy.
* A housing, usually made of metal or plastic, to protect the internal components.
