Electric meters are typically used to measure and record electricity usage. These devices can be based on different technologies, including traditional mechanical meters (analog) and modern electronic meters (digital). Both types have different structures and components.
Mechanical electric meters, also known as "rotating disk meters," typically consist of:
* An aluminum measuring disk that rotates under the influence of electric current. The speed of the disk is proportional to the current flowing through it.
* Gears and counters connected to the rotating disk, which record the electricity usage.
* An electromagnetic field, usually a copper coil, that stabilizes the speed of the rotating disk, ensuring accurate measurement.
* A housing, typically made of metal or plastic, that protects the internal components.
