Bronze is an alloy primarily consisting of copper and tin. It is one of the earliest metal alloys extensively used by humans, with its history dating back to around 3000 BC during the Bronze Age. The addition of tin makes bronze harder and more corrosion-resistant than pure copper, with a higher melting point, making it suitable for casting a variety of objects such as weapons, tools, decorations, and musical instruments. Besides copper and tin, bronze may also contain other elements such as lead, zinc, and phosphorus, which can further alter the properties of bronze to suit different applications.
Aluminum bronze is a type of bronze with aluminum as the primary alloying element. The aluminum content typically ranges from 5% to 12%, and sometimes other elements such as iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), or manganese (Mn) are added. Aluminum bronze has high strength and corrosion resistance, particularly excelling in marine environments. It also has good wear resistance and is resistant to oxidation, making it commonly used in high-load applications such as aircraft components, marine fittings, valve and pump parts, high-strength fasteners, and bearings.
